Lalibela - Bete Medahne Alem

Measuring 37.7 m in lenght, 23.7 m in width and 11.5 m in height, Bette Medhane Alem (House of Redeemer of the world) is the largest rock - hewn monolithic church in the woeld with 72 giant pillars. Explore the 800 years old Lalibela cross Lalibelas's prayer stick and many invaluable antiques inside, and the striking empty graves symbolically chiseled for Abraham Isaac and Jacob in the courtyard. In the outside courtyard, several small caves have been carved into the walls. Monks live in the caves, though in ancient times they were probably tombs.
