(እንቁጣጣሽ) Enkutatash which means “Gift of Jewels”‘ is a public holiday in coincidence of New Year in Ethiopia and Eritrea. It occurs on Meskerem 1st on the Ethiopian calendar, which is 11 September (or, during a leap year, 12 September) according to the Gregorian calendar.

Ethiopia has revised the entry requirement in relation to COVID-19 Pandemic effective from 1st April 2022.It will be much easier to go to Ethiopia. No PCR test will be required from vaccinated persons. Time to book a trip to Ethiopia!

Due to internal conflict, travel to the north of the country is impossible. The exceptions are Byhyr Dar and the areas around Addis Ababa, such as Debre Libanos. There are no problems with trips to the Omo Valley.

• All passengers arriving Ethiopia need to hold negative RT - PCR test certificate before arrival.
• When traveling to Ethiopia, the medical certificate showing the negative test result must have been issued within 120 hours (5 days) of arrival.
• The test need to be completed before arrival.
• There shall be no Covid-19 test to be done on arrival at Addis Ababa. passengers who have a certificate of negative covid-19 RT PCR test are required to bring the printed copy of the same.
• Rapid diagnostic test (RDT antibody test) certificate is not acceptable.
• The above requirement does not apply for transit passengers.

According to UNICEF, the under-five mortality rates in most of the sub-Saharan countries appear to be less affected by household wealth than in other developing regions. This is in part explained by the high levels of absolute poverty still prevailing in these countries, which are translated into the lack of adequate and essential services at the household level, and lack of health infrastructure and basic resources. However, children born into the poorest 20 percent of the population are 1.7 times more likely to die before the age of five than the wealthiest 20 percent, with an excess under-five mortality rate of 80 deaths per thousand live births (181 vs. 100 respectively).
